Sensor system for vertical automatic primal cutting of pig half carcasses by industrial robots

For the cutting robot of the company KUKA a sensor system was developed based on image processing for control of the cut path

  • primal cutting of vertical pig halves
  • flexible non-linear cut direction (curve cut), for instance separation of chop / belly

  • a 2 camera system automatically acquires the halves and transmits the image data to a separate evaluation pc
  • the cut path is determined with high stability and precision based on the specific anatomic features of every half
  • according to customer requirements and market conditions different cuts can be defined
